Suzi's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 27, 2000

Last weekend was the finale for the Renaissance Festival. As much as I enjoy the work, I'm glad it's over because I'm booked to the max!

Mike brought the boys out for a bit Sunday but it was chilly so they didn't stay for long. At least they can say they were there once this season.Monday night Matthew had his first Boy Scout Pack meeting of the new year. He received his one year service star, the National Summertime participation award (since he camped each month of the summer), his certificate for having completed last year as a Tiger Cub,and the whole group received the Quality Unit award for 2000.Of course then they sent him home with a box of chocolate bars to sell and the order form for the national popcorn sale.

In some ways it's a shame how each organization the kids belong to has some item they expect the kids to schlep around. Last week the fall school fundraiser orders went in and we paid the extra $12 a kid to the soccer league so they wouldn't each get another box of chocolates to sell.

Today all the elementary kids were bused to the stadium for yet another fundraiser in disguise. A year ago on Labor Day one of our school administrators and one of his children were killed in a tragic car accident. The National Honor Society started a scholarship fund in his name for his other children and district grads. Today they hold a "Fall Festival" carnival where the kids pay to play games and eat junk food, etc. with the proceeds going to the fund. The whole thing is a nice idea but it sort of obligates the parents to contribute to the fund since any child not participating is stuck in study hall for the day.

Ah well, eventually I hope the kids will grow to see the life lessons in all this as we have!

Take care!
