Suzi's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 11, 1999

Well, here goes my first official try at this diary thing! Here in Western PA, our children get Friday through Monday off with Columbus Day as a teacher in-service day. Matthew and the other "alumni" of his preschool were invited along with their younger siblings to a fire station fieldtrip Friday because they were off. The biggest surprise of the trip came when the kids were asked if they wanted to try out the "Jaws of Life" tool. Other than the first boy who was posed for a newspaper photo, Nicholas was the only child who stepped forward and said, "I do!" After that we went to lunch at McDonald's and then to my 30-week OB appt.

Saturday brought a hectic schedule. First Matt's 10 a.m. soccer game, then a birthday party at the roller rink for his friend. All the boys from his first grade class were invited. Matt wanted to know why everyone had to skate in the same direction.... He was reprimanded twice by the referee for trying to go against the flow! That's my Matthew, always the individualist! It poured here from about 4 p.m. on. When DH and I went to close the workshop and lock up for the night, we found two of the kittens from the spring litter dead. We suspect they got into some sort of poison. Yesterday morning we thought they just had colds. Mike took them out and buried them first thing this morning when the rain had stopped. We'll have to tell the boys tomorrow.

Matthew went with his grandparents to deliver a rescue dog to its new adoptive family today. I didn't want to tell him about the kittens right before they were in the car for six hours. The rescue dog had been here for about two weeks, and I figured that would be rough enough for one day. He's excited that he can count helping with the dog towards one of his Tiger Cub "Big Idea" pawprints.

While he was off on this adventure Nicholas, Mike and I went to Red Lobster. Today was our 12th wedding anniversary. Nick handled that pretty well but did comment as we left that it took too long in the restaurant. I guess if it takes longer than a Happy Meal, it's just not right! ;-)

Till Next Week!
