Tricia's Diary Entries

Introduction

Hello....

A few nights ago the kids and I went to a friends house for dinner. My friend has a seven year old daughter who is passionately into a new craze called Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards....Charles, Lyssie and Arielle disppeared into the playroom and we didn't hear a peep out of them for hours as they were seriously engrossed in the card playing. It looks to me to be similiar to Pokemon. :-)All the way home, Charles talked of the cards, how to play the game, how much fun he had....and then he asked me, if we too, could get some cards, if he was extra good! I said I would "think about it". :-)

We came home a little bit later than planned, so it was a quick bustle of checking homework, giving baths and hopping into bed. Charles could not have been more pliable! He usually doesn not like to be rushed, so I know it was an effort for him to breeze through my drill like commands so quickly, lol!

The next morning, (as I was out here sitting online) he awoke and actually organized his book shelf to surprise me and got dressed in his room and came out to show me how fast he had gotten ready. On the way to school he gently reminded me that they sell the cards in Walmart. :-) When pick up time came around, he actually had the teacher come out and tell me what a model student he had been all day! She chuckled and said "It must be something important that he wants!"

I had already gotten the starter deck of cards for him while he was in school. My son is a good boy and doesn't ask for much. He even declines writing a wish list for Christmas, he states that Santa can just surprise him. :-) Another thing that comes into play is looking back on my childhood. I'm certainly not saying this with any resentment, but when my sisters and I were growing up, there was not alot of extra money. If we asked for something, the answer was more often than not, no. I find pleasure in granting small wishes if I am able to and surprising my kids! I certainly don't run to the toy store every time they see something on TV, and they certainly aren't spoiled with material things by any means, but, yes, once in a while I like to indulge them.

Charles, Lyssie, and I started driving home from school and my son asked me if I had "Any extra money? "Can we go to Walmart Mom and get the cards?" I said I would stop home and check. :-) We all went inside and I went into the kitchen, opened the fridge and propped the box of cards in front of the gallon of milk and closed the door. I then called Charles in and asked him to grab the juice out for me...LOL! Well, the look on his face was so worth it! He was SOOOO excited, I thought he was going to cry!!!!!!!!!!
