I've heard you should not give children Tylenol. Why?
I'm not sure why you would be told not to use Tylenol. Tylenol is one of the most recommended medications to treat pain or fever in children. The only situations I can think where Tylenol would not be recommended is if there were an allergy to one of the ingredients, if your child were already taking a medication that included acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol) or if your child had liver disease.
It can be harmful for anyone to take the maximum daily dose of acetaminophen for more than five consecutive days because it can damage the liver. If it is just used on an occasional basis in someone with overall good health and no allergies to acetaminophen, it would not cause any problems. Your child's health care provider should be able to give you more information because he/she is familiar with your child's medical history."
