My daughter is almost 9 years old. We know she needs braces but she still has baby teeth. When should we take her to an orthodontist?

The American Dental Association recommends the initial orthodontic screening by age 7. In addition, general and pediatric dentists who offer orthodontic care in their offices may begin evaluating a child's jaw growth and occlusion (bite) years earlier to prevent function habits, such as thumbsucking and mouthbreathing, and treat disharmonies BEFORE a severe mal-occlusion (bad bite) develops.
As the final primary (baby) molars become wiggley, the transition space may be utilized to guide the permanent teeth to their proper positions. I would encourage you to see your pediatric or general dentist or orthodontist NOW. For more helpful info and to find one in your area, visit www.orthodontics.com. Remember, braces make pretty faces but SMILES are forever!
