Children Today's Advisor
Larry Jensen, Parenting Expert

Larry Jensen, Ph.D.
Parenting Expert

" After many years of teaching parenting, I have come to realize that there is no one correct way to parent. There are as many ways as there are parents. I view my role as helping you to discover and create your own parenting style. What is equally important is the conclusion that the first place to look for parenting direction is within yourself. My desire is to help you discover, from looking within and from discussion with a partner, the unique ways you can parent. Parenting, seen this way, is more of an art than a science. It is a process, a way of life, and should be approached with confidence and self-assurance. Each parent can learn from others, but in the final analysis each parent must work with his or her partner to raise their children in a way that no one else could. Asking questions from others is an ideal strategy to discover and create your own approach and I hope I can help you with my answers."

Larry Jensen, Ph.D. has taught parenting and human development courses and workshops for more than 34 years. He is currently a professor at Brigham Young University. He has authored a national textbook on parenting and has published additional books on adolescence, moral reasoning, step parenting, moral education, the family, and child development. At the present time, he is developing web courses and teaching independent study courses on parenting.

Professor Jensen is the father of one adopted, three step, and six natural children. He also has 18 grandchildren. According to Jensen, his practical experience has taught him as much about parenting has his Ph.D. degree and training. His theory of parenting emphasizes self-development and attitudes more than techniques. If parents enjoy parenting, consider parenting important, and are responsible they will, with just a little help, do a great job.
